Correlation of endometrial thickness using transvaginal sonography with histopathology in women with abnormal uterine bleeding: A cross-sectional study

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the most common complaints seen in gynecological practice, and transvaginal sonography (TVS) remains first-line, non-invasive diagnostic tool these women. Aims Objectives: The aim was to study endometrial thickness (ET) using TVS correlate it with histopathological findings obtained through biopsy patients AUB. Materials Methods: This a prospective observational conducted tertiary care center Northern India, from January 2018 June 2019. One hundred sixty women reproductive age group presenting AUB were recruited. done note its echotexture additional such as uterine, adnexal, or other pelvic pathology. patient underwent aspiration Karman Cannula, correlated TVS. Results: In our study, majority (40%, n=64) belonged 41–45 years, fibroid being cause (39.3%, n=63). Thickened ET (>12 mm) noted 44 (27.5%) 4 had an polyp. mean 11.48±5.11 mm (range: 4–35 mm). normal histopathology secretory endometrium (29.37%, n=47), followed by proliferative (20.6%, n=33). abnormal changes included disordered (23.1% n=37) simple hyperplasia (6.8%, n=11). Four cases found have adenocarcinoma. On correlating histopathology, that out 8 >20 mm, 3 carcinoma, 2 endometrium, 1 each pill secretory, atypical hyperplasia. Conclusion: provides crucial information on echo-morphological features cavity, increasing mandates confirmation for ruling malignancy.
